2000.12.26 Envelope
This envelope full of stuff from Vermin practically exemplifies the "Give me your tired, your poor," your junk around your house that you want to get rid of that you've picked up from compulsive dumpstering, whatever. Nonetheless, as a look at Vermin world it's chock-full-of-laughs - which is more than I can say for the "The New Colossus" poem connected to the Statue of Liberty.
Here's an example of a found object sent me by Vermin that caught me off-guard. The word "pastie", for me, evokes a decoarive object, often circular wit tassles hanging from it for twirling, used to cover a woman's nipple, usually a stripper's, in order to avoid violating laws about indecent exposure.
SO, when I read "Paul Bunyon's Pasties" I imagine some sort of giant transvestite or transexual stripper. I suspect that Vermin sent me this precisely because he knew I'd have that reaction.
Furthermore, this image is a bit too suggestive of a man holding his erect penis. As such, collectively eating a "delicious 200-pound-plus pastie [of a miner no less] on the Sunday before Memorial Day" doesn't really appeal to my heterosexuality.
As for wooden shoes?
I must admit that they don't strike me as very comfortable. Are they what you wear when you're eating a 200+ pound pastie in a pre-Memorial Day orgy by candlelight in a mine?
